Winter Wonder Grass 2016 and we found ourselves in beautiful Olympic Village in Tahoe. It was the first annual and the crowd was excited. At the time, Sierra Nevada Brewery was contemplating sponsoring our web site. As we talked with them at the beer tent Trampled by Turtles took the stage. The first song reminded me of a run away locomotive tearing through the night. I was blown away by the power of unity in a string band. The fiddle roaring into the sky had me enamored. The grass roots version of tripped out power chords, behind riffing quick banjo and guitar. Dave and his non chalant greatness. A true and honest string band with something special always lurking underneath.
We sat down with mandolin player Eric Berry in South Lake Tahoe. A man of many instruments, he settled on the mandolin. A true shredders instrument. He has been with the band since the beginning. The band formed in the tundra midwest of Minnesota. "Wait So Long" has long been one of my favorite songs. But since diving deeper into their catalog I’ve found more and more greatness the farther I diverge. This October the band will travel to Placerville, CA for Hangtown Halloween Festival. One of my favorite places on earth. The weather will be good and the music vibe ever greater.
